Caesar Creek State Park

Winter Hike

Saturday, February 27th 10 am to noon (continuous start times)

Meet at the Wellman Meadows Boat Ramp for our annual Winter Hike. Enjoy a well-marked self-guided hike throughscenic snowy landscapes. Walk 3 miles, or the full 6 miles to see both waterfalls in our area. Warm up at the Nature Center, which isthe half way mark for soup beans, corn bread, hot drinks and more ($5 for full meal). Think Spring-Salamander Hike

Hikes will be on ONE of the following dates: Friday - Feb. 26th, Mar. 4th, or Mar. 11th at 7pm at the Caesar Creek Visitor Center.

Nature's timing is unpredictable and in order to make sure we have the best chance to actually see them migrating to their breeding ponds we may hike Friday Feb. 26th, March 4th or, 11th. The actual hike date will be determined on theWednesday before the hike. Together we will search for salamanders as they awaken from hibernation and move toward their breeding ponds. There isno cost for this event and no experience is necessary. This isan adventure for the entire family. Please dress for the weather - boots and aflashlight are essential. Winter Bird Banding

Saturday, March 5th, 9am - noon

The Ohio Bird Banding Association will be sponsoring a winter bird banding demonstration in conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This event isfree to the public and will feature bird banding demonstrations using live birds. Various trapping methods will be employed to show how birds aresafety removed, data is gathered and the birds are then released unharmed back into the wild. Trilling Toads and Tiny Treefrogs

Saturday, March 12th, 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Take an evening hike to search for these wondrous amphibians. We’ll view frogs and toads up close in their marshy habitat. An adventure for the whole family. Please dress for the weather, boots are required. Bring a flashlight if you have one. This is a Friends of Caesar Creek Program, $2.00 per person. "Gourds For the Birds" 

Sunday, March 13th, 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Join Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalists to create bird houses out of common garden gourds.  All Materials and tools furnished.  $5 per person or $10 per family.  Reservations required 512-897-2437.

Every weekend during the spring / summer we will be showing a nature-related movie. This month's

feature will be the movie Day of the Killer Tornado” about the April 3rd, 1974 tornadoes.

 Attention all local Scouts, 4-H’ers, and all other groups!  Need to work on your service projects? Need to add to your volunteer time? Come out to Caesar Creek Lake and help us clean up around the park.  We will be picking up litter, cleaning up trails, and making the park ready for the upcoming season.  Please pre-register by calling 513-897-1050

      8th Annual BioBlitz!

   Friday April 15th - Saturday, April 16th, 6:00pm 6:00pm

Park rangers, local experts, and citizenscientists just like you will be coming together to participate in BioBlitz! BioBlitz isan event that partners local experts of all kinds with citizen scientists to find and identify asmany species of life around the park within a 24hr period! Participants have a chance to get up close and personal with fish, birds, bugs, and even fungus as they strive tofind as many species as possible. Kids have a chance to win prizes as they findspecies. This event is greatfor all ages and expertise levels! Free camping isavailable upon registration. Civil War Union Training Camp

April 23rd -24th  

Learn about the life of a Union soldier during the Civil War as you take part in the training.  Ladies, join the Soldiers’ Aid Society while attending the afternoon tea. Enjoy demonstrations and activities for all ages. Stay for the Soldiers’ dance @ 4pm on Saturday.

International Migratory Bird Day & Spring Birding Clinic

Saturday, May 14th, 8:30am - 5pm

Help us celebrate one of natures great wonders, the annual spring bird migration. Games, fun, and movies for the whole family to enjoy at the Visitor Center. Continuous bird banding demonstrations will take place. For more information, call 513-897-1050. Join Friends of Caesar Creek and master bird bander, Bob Thobabenfora guided bird walk to discover the many species of migratory birdsinthe park. Pre-registration is required and limited to the first 15 people. Bob will leadyou to areas within the park where you will see between 50-60 species of birds including hawks, warblers and waterfowl.

The Great Fossil Hunt

Monday, May 30th,1:00 - 3:00 pm (Memorial Day)

The ancient Ordovician Sea has disappeared, but evidence of marine life is abundant in the Caesar Creek Region. Meet at the Visitor Center for a program about these fascinating creatures, including the trilobite. Afterward, go to the Emergency Spillway to identify and study a diversity of fossils. Caesar Creek State Park

Youth Fishing Derby

June 18th, 8am-1pm

Join us for this free annual event hosted by ODNR staff and the Harveysburg Police Department. Registration starts at 8am. TheYouth pond will be fully stocked and staffed for this event (The YouthPond isnear Caesar Creek Beach).  Kids ages 15 and younger are permitted to fish in the Youth Pond. Parents may assist young anglers if needed. Fishing license are not required. Trophies and prizes are awarded for different age groups. Lunch and bait are provided by the Harveysburg Police Department. Call the NatureCenter for more info. 513-897-2437.

Butterfly Census

Do you like butterflies? Would you like to learn more about these winged creatures or share your knowledge? Please join the Caesar Creek rangers for our annual count in conjunction with the North American Butterfly Association. NABA wasformed in order to promote awareness of butterfly conservation and the benefits of butterfly gardening, observation, and education. Junior Rangers

July 12th -15th, 10:00am - noon each day

Jr. Rangers is a four day program for children between the ages of 6 and 12 years old. The program is designed to help children gain a better understanding of the environment and the role they play in it. Of course, nature isfun; therefore, each day the programis filled with hands-on activities and games to re-enforce the concepts being covered. There is a $20.00 materials fee, per child, for this program due before July 4th. Pre-registration is required. After July 4th registration goes up to $25.00 per child. Meet ODNR naturalists and Cincinnati Astronomical Society for an out-of-this- world experience! Learn about nocturnal wildlife and discover the stars and planets through family oriented hands-on learning activities! Talk with members from theCincinnati Astronomical Society and listen totheir fascinating presentation. View Stars, planets, and other galaxies through their telescopes or bringyour own. Take A Warrior Fishing Event and Ohio Free Fishing Day!

Saturday, August 27th, 8am-4pm

Veterans and their families have the opportunity to join local sportsman through the sport offishing. Veterans who register for this event will have all fishing gear suppliedforthem. A barbeque luncheon will also be provided for veterans and theirfamilies. If you know of or are aveteran and would be interested in fishing with local sportsman, contact a park ranger at 513-897-1050. If you would like to volunteer or donate to this event contact rangers for more information. And dont forget! Bring your kids to the Visitor Center and borrow a fishing pole, bait your hook and fish at ourKids Fishing Pond! This is an all day celebration of outdoor fun for the whole family!

Monarch Butterfly Day

Saturday, September 10th, 11:00 am - 2:00 pm.

Take part in an international study that tracks the migration of the

Monarch butterfly as it journeys toward Mexico. Help to capture, tag, record and

National Public Lands Day

Come out to the park and help us celebrate National Public Lands Day participate in trail maintenance, litter pick up, and wildflower seed collecting.  We will also have information on the fossils found at Caesar Creek and where to go to collect them.

Celebrate the harvest as the village is preparing for winter. Take part in the activities of the early 1800s. Bring a bag of individually wrapped Treat candy and get FREE admission for one.

Perimeter Trail Hike

Join us for the 13 mile guided hike around the southern portion of Caesar Creek Lake. Pack your lunch, water, and camera for thisscenic trail through the colorful fall foliage. Little Miami Watershed Festival

Fun, family-oriented days in natural surroundings that help promote the beauty and value of the Little Miami River watershed. More than 20 exhibitors, representing watershed interests and conservation groups will be presenting educational displays, hands-on activities and large-group events for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages. Owl Moon

Join us for a moonlit owl hike. We'll begin with a story, the Owl Moonstory which tells the tale of a father and daughter on a winter hike in search of a Great-Horned Owl. November iswhen owls re-establish territories and prepare for nesting that begins in the heart of winter, an adventure for thewhole family. Please dress for the weather, bring a flashlight if you have one. Registration is required and space is limited.  This is a Friends of Caesar Creek Program, $2 per person. Audubon Christmas Bird Count

Thursday, December 15th, 6 am - 5 pm

Calling all birders! We need your help with our 9th Annual Caesar Creek Lake / SpringValley Marsh Christmas Bird Count. For early risers we will look and listen for owls at 6 am. We’ll regroup at the Visitor Center at 8:30 am, break into teams and search for waterfowl and songbirds. We’ll meet at the Visitor Center at 1 pm for a hot lunchsponsored by the Friends of Caesar Creek. Experts and beginners are encouraged to attend. Come out for all or part of the day.
